Bogdan Kajak was born on 4th September 1922 in Warsaw. His parents were Maria Kajak, née Szatkowska, and Wacław Kajak.
His family lived in Warsaw, in flat 39 at 8/10 Nowy Świat Street. Bogdan had a younger sister, Hanna. The Kajaks had a housekeeper, Aniela.
From the documents we found out that Bogdan was a student in the first year of the Municipal Middle School at 32 Młynarska Street but at the beginning of 1939 he moved to Adam Mickiewicz State Secondary School in Warsaw.
He was arrested on 22nd January 1941 for participating in clandestine lessons which took place in his and his friends’ flats. Other students were arrested with him.
Gestapo officer Milke was present during his arrest. He was the one whom Bogdan’s father was talking to, trying to have his son’s charges dropped, unfortunately without success. On 5th April he was transported from Pawiak prison to Auschwitz concentration camp with other prisoners.
In documents of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) we can find his and other students’ surnames and their prisoner numbers – Bogdan’s was 12383. In his records it is written that he died on 2nd August 1941 at 6.00 AM.
