Textbooks and notebooks during WWII in Poland

16 May 2018

During secret lessons, Polish children and youth were using single copies of textbooks that were usually owned by the teacher. However, in order for pupils to be able to learn outside the “schoolhouse”, the textbooks were copied into notebooks. The hero of our project – Bogdan Kajak – used such notebooks himself. The notebook we have access to was used as a copied science textbook. The content of the notebook is very clear and concise. There are no crossed out words and all the units and subjects are very clearly marked by a different font or by underlining. If we compare the handwriting in the notebook to the one in, for example, Bogdan’s diary we can see that he worked really hard on keeping his notebook tidy and well written.
